On March 14, 2019, Capt Bill Rote was flying his Great Lakes biplane off the coast of La Jolla, when the left upper aileron failed. On the day before the 5th anniversary of the event, Bill will share the story of his mishap, declaring the emergency, the decisions he made and why he made them, and the ramifications of the incident, including dealing with the NTSB and FAA. In addition to pictures taken by his passenger as the event unfolded, Bill will share the recordings of ATC communications during the entire emergency.
