A fly-In Pancake Breakfast and educational event is planned for Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the EAA hanger at McGregor Executive Airport (KPWG). The FAASTeam - WINGS Program will begin at 10:00 AM following breakfast served beginning at 8:30 AM. Everyone is invited to register and attend; EAA or chapter membership is not required. Some will choose to fly in and others may choose to drive and there is ample parking for both airplanes and cars. Prior to attending a safety seminar please review and abide by current CDC, State and Local health guidelines. Simulator Scenario Discussion: The Dreaded NDB. (Note: You are required to use the steam gauge panel for this exercise.) You have returned to Waco, but the weather has deteriorated. To complicate matters, your Garmin GNS 530W has died en route, meaning you do not have GPS or VOR/ILS and your only operable Navaid is the ADF receiver. ASR is currently unavailable. You are using your backup hand-held radio to talk to ATC. The only option is to fly the published NDB approach into KCNW. You do not have enough fuel to get to where the weather will allow a VFR descent. Current METAR: KCNW 141800Z AUTO 35005KT 4SM OVC014 15/12 A2992 RMK A02 ========================================== Select the scenario IMC Club Jan 2023 . You lost your 530 when you were 30 NM northwest of the ACT VOR, and ATC provided vectors to approximately overhead the VOR while you considered your options. When the scenario starts, you are at the ACT VOR at 4000 feet, 120 knots on a heading of 125. ATC issues Proceed direct the Robinson NDB and hold as published. Descend in holding to 2900 feet. Expect further clearance for the NDB 35R approach at 1845Z . (Time now is 1830Z.) Upon leaving the ACT VOR outbound to the NDB, the battery dies in your hand-held. All other aircraft instruments are working normally. ============================================================= QUESTION OF THE MONTH: What bearing is shown by the needle on the ADF Indicator? In the time remaining, we will review the Wings Program and discuss how to make it work for you. Until then, stay safe and we hope to see you at the meeting.
