Transitioning Safely to Other Types of Gliders - For the Solo Pilot to the Flight Instructor. A quintessential topic for the Glider and Soaring Community, Transition Training. Instructors (CFIG) and new glider pilots all face challenges as their skills and flying aspirations change and they look at "moving on" with the varied glider fleet. Whether it be different tow procedures required by regulatory endorsements, transition into single seat gliders, or learning to fly Glass (structure or instrumentation) and more, the soaring community faces this challenge often. The General Aviation Joint Steering Committee (GAJSC) Loss of Control Work Group studied a group of General Aviation accidents that may have been caused by inadequate or no transition training received by the pilots involved. THE GAJSC feels that thorough airframe-specific Transition Training conducted by a qualified Flight Instructor is essential to flight safety.
