Towing banners is usually done in slow, old airplanes. It demands a high level of skill, dealing with unpredictable weather, and all the risks of low-altitude flying. It's a career path for aviators seeking adventure, building hours, and willing to embrace the challenges of towing banners. Speaker bio: Rob Mark worked two jobs most of his life. He began his aviation career as an air traffic controller at PWK tower while earning various pilot certificates. Rob spent two summers towing banners along the Chicago lakefront. He holds an ATP with type ratings in several jets. He left ATC to fly airplanes full-time and flew for Midway Airlines until they folded in 1992. He then focused on business aviation, that is until he realized he also loved telling stories about aviation and the people who make it work. That led him to write for Aviation International News, Air Line Pilot, the Chicago Tribune, AOPA Pilot, and Flying magazine. Rob was inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2021.
