Puerto Rico and USVI CFI/DPE Forum What are some of the effects of operating outside the operational limitations of an aircraft? Needless to say, the list of detrimental effects is long. Most importantly, we as instructors and examiners have the responsibility to emphasize to the new generation of pilots that structural failures leading to injury and loss of life can and will occur. We also have to consider that the effects of stress and fatigue from exceeding limitations is cumulative. In other words, the older an airframe gets, the probability of it being structurally compromised usually increases. This presentation will look at a few local case studies to address the importance of operating within an aircraft's operating envelope. We will discuss instructional best practices for teaching aircraft limitations. Ultimately, our local designated pilot examiners (DPE's) will discuss how they perform aircraft limitations knowledge evaluations on airman certificate applicants.
