This 2-hour interactive program is the personal true life story for speaker Dr. John Bridewell and brother passenger pilot Col. Duncan Bridewell as they made an unexpected emergency landing on a river bed in Desolation Canyon in Utah while enroute to meet up with some friends in Alaska. The impact trapped the men inside their Piper Cherokee as a post-impact fire ignited the forest around them. Escaping the burning wreckage with life threatening injuries, they were discovered by a group river rafters that assisted them in the two-day journey back to medical assistance. This exciting first-hand power point presentation is filled with actual photographs from the event and lessons learned. John will talk about preflight preparations for flight over hostile terrain, preflight planning and risk management for the unexpected in that environment, aircraft performance, probable causes of the accident, and off-grid survival under hostile conditions when the unwanted happens. Dr. John Bridewell is a retired Professor of Aviation (Emeritus) from the University of North Dakota. He holds ATP, CFI, CFII, CFIME, and A&P certificates. He and his brother Duncan own and fly a 1977 Cessna Cardinal RG with a new Garmin TXi panel. John and his wife are snowbirds spending summers in North Dakota and winters at Cedars Airfield, Cedar Key, Florida. Retired USAF Col. Duncan Bridewell resides with his wife in Citrus Hills, Florida. Duncan will also be attending the presentation.
