When learning to fly, we are taught how to work the charts and the math to figure the weight and balance, but there is far too little information in the primary sources as to why this is important. When we don't understand the 'why', we then tend to devalue the need for the process. John Swedburg is a FAASTeam Representative, and has been an active flight instructor since 1974. He retired from full time flight instruction at the commercial pilot flight training program at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake, Washington in 2014. John holds an ATP SMEL, Commercial SES; CFI-ASME&I, A&IGI; and 107 Remote Pilot. He has over 16,000 hours of instruction given, and has taught in 58 FIRCs in the Seattle area. His college degrees include a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Theology, and a Master of Arts (Counseling).
