Flying in the mountains, between and alongside snow-capped peaks, can be the highlight of pilot s logbook entries. We will discuss topics such mountain influenced weather, mountain flying techniques, mountain airports, a review of density altitude, planning a flight in mountainous terrain, a few survival tips and how to make that go-no go decision. Mountain flying with proper preparation is safe, extremely memorable and rewarding, but only you can make it happen. Mark Cook's aviation journey began in junior high when he knew he wanted to be a pilot. He started his professional career as a "freight dog" flying Beech Queen Airs for Bemidji Aviation and now works as a contract pilot specializing in Pilatus PC12s and Socata TBM aircraft. With over 10,600 flight hours and experience piloting 70 different types of airplanes, Mark is also an active CFI, operating Barnstormers Flight Training with his wife at Bemidji Regional Airport.
