A safety discussion of tips and techniques to precisely inspect and maintain your aircraft. Medicine has enthusiastically adopted minimally invasive procedures. Instead of biopsies, we do ultrasounds and MRIs. Instead of open surgery, we use laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. In this webinar, maintenance expert Mike Busch A&P/IA makes the case that we should also be using minimally invasive methods in the maintenance of our aircraft. Rather than tearing down an engine in response to metal in the oil filter, we can usually use a borescope to see what's going on inside the crankcase. Instead of pulling a cylinder to fix a burned exhaust valve or stuck piston rings, we can use minimally invasive methods that don't involve cylinder removal. Such minimally invasive procedures are not described in maintenance manuals or taught in A&P school, so mechanics and maintenance-involved owners need to educate themselves on these minimally invasive methods, techniques, and practices.
