11:00 AM - 01:00 PM
KPCM - Plant City
This seminar will entail a guided group discussion of the "Startle Response" in both IFR and VFR situations and how we respond to it and prevent or lessen the effect of it. Many aircraft incidents and accidents are caused by the pilots reaction to an unforeseen event. Engine Failure on Takeoff; Another Aircraft cutting in front of you or Pulling out on the Runway when you are on Final; A Passenger distracting the Pilot. There are many ways that the Pilot can be "Startled" during the operation of the aircraft. Loss of Control is a common result of the Startle Response. How the Pilot responds is critical. The Startle Response can happen, not only when flying but also during normal every day life. Loud Noises or Flashes of Light; Someone Touching or speaking to you from behind, etc. All of these can trigger an inappropriate response from anyone. This is the Startle Response. The FAASTeam Seminars at KPCM provide organized "Hangar Flying" focused on building a safety consciousness among pilots. These seminars provide informative presentations along with WINGS credit. Pilots of all experience levels are welcome as are non-pilots that are interested in aviation and aviation safety. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this seminar. For more information and to be part of the event, visit FAASAFETY.GOV and register online. Due to the limited number of seats, register early.
