FAA Safety Seminar, Simple changes to your ordinary procedures can yield immediate safety improvement. A disproportionate number of fatal accidents take place during take-off and landing. Only 6% of piloting time represents 71% of all fatal accidents! Simple changes in preparation and procedures can significantly reduce your chance of an accident in these areas. A pilot should tune up their vigilance when in this phase of flight and always leave a performance margin and an escape route to assure safety.
