The EagleBot might resemble a species of robotic beings from the Transformers sci-fi movie franchise, but actually, its the progeny of a volunteer airport-improvement project sponsored by the Bennington Sport Flying Club (BSFC). The silver eagle sculpture was especially designed and constructed to grace the Wm. H. Morse State Airport entrance, situated 1.5 miles west of the Bennington Monument along Walloomsac Road. Chief sculptor and architect of the collaborative fine arts project is Leik Myrabo, BSFCs current president (and retired RPI engineering-physics professor). Picture a bigger-than-life, 300+ lb. robotic eagle measuring 8 ft tall and 13 ft wide, formed like an aircraft with welded inner steel spars, wing ribs and fuselage bulkheadsall tightly wrapped in a 1/16 glistening aluminum skin, affixed with aircraft rivets and stainless steel screws, using traditional A&P mechanic tools of the trade. The 250% scale metal eagle sports an 18 foot wingspan, roughly 2.5X larger than the 7.2 ft span of fully mature female bald eagleswhich are naturally bigger than the males. The EagleBots 51 mm supersized glass eyes were custom made by VanDykes Taxidermy.
