This event will start with a Master Pilot Award Ceremony for Alan Haaland of Skyborne Academy at 5 pm. Mr. Alfonso's presentation on CFIT and LOC-I will run from 6 pm til 8 pm. Controlled Flight into Terrain (CFIT) refers to accidents in which there was an in-flight collision with terrain, water, or obstacle, without indication of loss of control. The critical distinction in these types of accidents is the fact that the aircraft was under the control of the pilot at the time of the collision. Although CFIT is not the most frequent of accident categories, such accidents account for a substantial number of fatalities. Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) remains one of the most significant contributors to fatal accidents worldwide. LOC-I refers to accidents in which the pilot was unable to maintain control of the aircraft in flight, resulting in an unrecoverable deviation from the intended flight path. LOC-I can result from a range of interferences including engine failures, icing, or stalls. It is one of the most complex accident categories, involving numerous contributing factors that act individually or, more often, in combination. Reducing this accident category, through understanding of causes and possible intervention strategies, is an industry priority.
