KUAO - Aurora State
Speaker: Gary Larsen Gary will discuss his former role at Mt. Hood national forest, the incident command system, the multi-agency coordination system that was engaged when fighting massive Northwest-wide fires, and a hodgepodge of types of aviation involved in forestry on public lands. The discussion will present challenges of managing the wide variety of aviation resources in support of fire suppression. Gary's son Atom will chime in and talk about their Mooney s restoration - an unmodified M20D, for those who know the type. This is likely the ONLY unmodified "D" model in existence -- come find out why! Gary Larsen was Executive in charge of the Mt. Hood National Forest from 1996-2010. Budget and workforce was as large as $50,000,000 with 500 people. He managed the 1.1 million acre Forest, providing services for five million recreation visits per year through 100 campgrounds, five ski areas, 1,000 miles of trails, 3,000 miles of roads, eight Wilderness Areas, and 81 miles of Scenic and Recreational Rivers.
