After seven years as an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI), conducting CFI and Charter Pilot flight evaluations, and investigating Pilot Deviations (PDs), it became apparent that there were some subject areas where additional knowledge was needed. From these observations, investigations, and interviews of Airmen and Instructors and the determination of causation, the Inspector has prepared a presentation of lessons-learned that may help the CFI to be a better Instructor and to avoid PDs. Although the target audience is the CFI, there are some meaningful lessons for all pilots.
